We Kinda Like The Constitution As Is, Mr. Obama

I apologize for my conspicuous absence this week, Crumb Crunchers. Things should be back to normal (such as that is) around here in another day or two. In the meantime, I'll be posting things that express my views in a concise and clear this:

Obama Is President. Did Ye Get Healed?

Well, Crumb Crunchers, the deed is done. Barack Obama has been sworn in amid much pomp and circumstance and has assumed the office of the Presidency. Given the anticipation, expectation and adoration heaped upon him (and foisted upon us) by his acolytes for the past two years, I have just one question this morning: Did ye get healed?
I wanna know did you get the feelin'?
Did you get it down in your soul?
I wanna know did you get the feelin'?
Did ye get healed?
Van Morrison's lyric was, of course, written about the one true God. It is a great song; I can't find a video embed, but you can listen to it here. Oh, and Ms. Alexander? Yes, you. The alleged 'poet' from the coronation ceremony... this, my dear, is poetry.

The Two Americas

Is Barack Obama really the new savior of America - a Black Messiah, if you will? Well, many people seem to think so. Grammy's advice: don't buy what they're selling, kids.

The Kinks, 'Black Messiah'

We aren't a great country because we elected a Black man. We - the ordinary Americans of all colors - are what makes America unique and special....

Saul Anuzis: Rebuilding the GOP

I posted an endorsement of Saul a few weeks ago. Here, in his own words, are some of the reasons why. Pay particular attention to his plans for using technology to our full advantage - because the Dems ran circles around us in the last two cycles from a tech point of view. Check out Saul's website and the 'Blueprint for a GOP Comeback' for more of his ideas.

Ship of Fools

I'm not at all certain Bob meant this song to be a political statement, but it sure feels like one this morning. I hope I survive the sinking.... 'cause I surely am on a ship of fools!

Crystal Blue Morning In Michigan

Subzero temperatures, freezing fog and early morning diffused sunlight left my yard looking surreal and otherworldly today, so I tried to capture some of it for you to share. I've paired the photos with the beautiful 'Winter' from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Enjoy!

Happy 50th, Motown! Thanks For The Memories.

Can you believe it? Motown is 50 years old today. So much wonderful music, I hardly know where to begin....but this proud daughter of Detroit will try. You know all the words, don't you?

The Supremes, 'Stop In The Name of Love'

Marvin Gaye, 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' (Acapella - what a VOICE!)

The Temptations, 'My Girl'

The Four Tops, 'Bernadette'

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, 'Dancing In The Streets'

The Jackson 5, 'Got To Be There' (Michael was still a cute Black kid!)

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, 'Tracks of My Tears'

The Spinners, 'I'll Be Around'

Stevie Wonder, 'Superstition'

I know, it's barely a taste. I could be here all day and then some. Check out the vast catalog of Motown hits; they are the soundtrack of a generation. Thank you, Mr. Gordy!

Think You're Having A Bad Day? Meet Nick.

Times are hard. We hear it on the news and read it in the papers. People worry about keeping their jobs, making a living, paying for college. These are legitimate concerns, but maybe if we step back, take a breath and consider what someone else is dealing with, we won't feel so stressed. Allow me to introduce you to Nick:

I complained that I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet. ~ Indian Proverb

The Four Tops, 'I'll Be There'

If you feel that you can't go on
Because all of your hope is gone
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is crumbling down
Reach out
Reach out
I'll be there
With a love that will shelter you
I'll be there
With a love that will see you through.

If God brings you to it, He'll bring you through it.
Life is tough. Pray hard.

Muslims Hate V-8?

Is there no end to the things Muslims hate? I mean, really....death to juice? Grammy's advice: Avoid 'Sunni Delight'; it's killer!

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried, Crumb Crunchers.

Same Shiite, Different Year

38 people are reported dead and dozens more were injured in the latest homicide bombing to rock Baghdad. The only thing slightly unusual about this story is the bomber's gender - female. From Fox News' coverage (links added ~ed):
A female homicide bomber blew herself up on Sunday among a crowd of pilgrims worshipping at a revered Shiite shrine in northern Baghdad, killing at least 38 people and wounding about 72, the Iraqi army and police said.
The attack came as Shiites prepared to mark Ashura on Jan. 7. Falling on the 10th of Muharram under the Islamic lunar calendar, it is one of the most important holy days for Shiite Muslims and marks the death of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson Imam Hussein.
Although the homicide attack bore all the hallmarks of the Sunni terror group Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has killed hundreds of people in bombings against Ashura pilgrims in recent years, other Islamic extremist groups have used the day to stage bloody attacks.

Among the bloodiest attacks during Ashura were a series of mortar attacks and bombings in Baghdad and Karbala that killed nearly 200 pilgrims and wounded more than 500 others in 2004.
And the beat goes on. Sometimes I feel like Bill Murray in 'Groundhog Day', ya' know? Makes me wanna sing the blues....

  2. When playing the Blind Academy, the Lions must not hide the football under their jerseys.
  3. The Lions will be allowed 20 men on the field at all times.
  4. Detroit may substitute with band members, cheerleaders, water boys or fans at their discretion.
  5. The Lions may take up to 10 timeouts.
  6. Detroit will be awarded a first down with each gain of 3 yards.

Lions owner William Clay Ford was quoted as saying, "Who needs personnel, management or ownership changes when we have a schedule like this? I think we actually have a shot at a winning season now!" He angrily denounced as vicious rumor a report that claimed he was changing the team name to 'The Pussy Cat Dolls'.
