I pledge (promise) allegiance (loyalty) to the flag of the United States of America (the last best hope for mankind) and to the Republic (a nation in which supreme power rests in the people) for which it stands, one Nation (people with territory, culture and language in common) under God (the creator and ruler of the Universe), indivisible (cannot be divided), with liberty (freedom from government interference) and justice (impartiality) for all.
